Heather was installed during the Annual Session and CE Event September 23, 2017. She will also serve as Membership Chairman. Heather has been selected to attend the 2017 ADHA Unleashing Your Potential leadership workshop. She is studying to earn her BSDH through Pennsylvania College of Technology. Heather is a 2014 graduate of BridgeValley CTC. She works in Beckley, WV with Michael Fizer, DDS at Fizer Dental Care. Prior to studying dental hygiene she worked as a certified dental assistant with Fizer Dental Care. Heather lives in White Sulphur Springs, WV with her husband Josh and daughter Hallie. She loves to cook and travel, enjoying the adventure and beauty offered by West Virginia.

Beth has been working as a clinical dental hygienist since her graduation from BridgeValley CTC in 2016. She served her peers as president of her student chapter. Upon graduation she was awarded a leadership scholarship that gave her the opportunity to learn more about professional membership. The connections and invaluable working relationships she has made through this mentoring called her to serve other members and dental professionals. Her future goals include advancing her education and using her skills to be a resource to her peers, her community, and other professionals.
Amanda received an AS degree in Dental Hygiene from West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech) in 1999. Amanda practiced dental hygiene in private practice for a about 10 years, 6 of those years were spent working in a periodontal practice. While working in private practice, Amanda attained a BS in dental hygiene from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2008. After the completion of her BS degree she was able to achieve a long-term career goal as a dental hygiene educator at her alma mater, WVU Tech which is now called BridgeValley Community and Technical College. She recently completed her MS degree in Adult and Technical Education from Marshall University Graduate College. Amanda is the SADHA advisor for the dental hygiene students at BridgeValley and is committed to improving the oral health of the public, advancing the art and science of dental hygiene, and promoting the highest standards of quality care in dental hygiene.
Amanda was one of 40 RDHs from across the country selected to attend the ADHA UYP Leadership workshop in Chicago in November 2014. She was featured on the cover of RDH Magazine February 2015.
is a graduate of West Virginia University obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in 1993 from the School of Dentistry, Division of Dental Hygiene. She received a Masters of Public Health degree in 2012 from the WVU School of Medicine. She has worked in both private and public sectors of the dental profession over the span of nineteen years. Gina has six years of experience working in the specialty field of Pediatric Dentistry and currently serves as a Regional Oral Health Coordinator at Marshall University in conjunction with WV Department of Health and Human Services. She has held a faculty appointment within the West Virginia University School of Dentistry since 2004 and obtained a faculty appointment within the WVU School of Public Health this past year.
In 2006, Gina was awarded the West Virginia University Extension Service Award of Excellence and in 2009 she was selected as one of West Virginia’s Generation Next 40 Under 40. Over the past four years she has assisted in securing over a half million dollars in grant funding to promote oral health throughout West Virginia. In addition, she is a graduate of the 2010 class of the Leadership West Virginia program.
In her spare time, she enjoys scrapbooking, jewelry making, and traveling with her husband Craig. She and Craig enjoy spending time with their daughter

received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene from West Liberty State College. She has worked in private practice in Ohio and West Virginia throughout her professional career. At present, she is employed as an Academic Laboratory Instructing Assistant in the Sarah Whitaker Glass School of Dental Hygiene at West Liberty University (formerly, West Liberty State College)
Carly Scala, BSDH,RDH
Public Relations Chair
Carly is a Parkersburg, WV native that graduated in 2014 from West Virginia University as her SADHA Class President. She was also a "Golden Scaler" recepient and the recepient of the Robert E. Sausen Distinguished Student award from WVU. After practicing full-time clinically in Vienna, WV for 5 years, Carly relocated to Charleston, WV to pursue new employment with WVU Research Corporation as an Oral Data Collector, In addition to her clinical endeavors, Carly is a dental product educator with Young Dental for the state of WV. Carly has recently delved into dental hygiene publications, and her articles can be found in print and online in RDH Magazine. Carly's main interests in publication are team building, leadership, and substance abuse.
Marlana Thomas, MS, RDH, CDA, CTTS, Secretary
Marlana Thomas is an Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene at West Virginia University. She received her Bachelors and Master's Degree in Dental Hygiene from Old Dominion University, in Virginia. Upon graduating, she worked as a public health hygienist, then entered academia teaching in both a dental hygiene and dental assisting program. During her time in Virginia, Marlana served as the Vice President of the Virginia Dental Hygienists Association for 2 years.
Marlana lives in Morgantown, with her daughter Tristyn. They enjoy cooking, crafts and frequent trips back to Virginia to visit friends and family.
Ashlee Sowards, BSDH, MSDH, NCTTP
Ashlee has been a full time faculty member of the WVU School of Dentistry, Department of Dental Hygiene since 2011. She received her BSDH from WVU in 2007 and her MSDH from WVU in 2011. While pursuing her master’s degree, she also worked in a private practice in Morgantown, WV. She received her NCTTP (National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice) from UMDNJ in April 2013. She utilizes this certification while teaching and treating clients at the WVU School of Dentistry. Ashlee is very active with committee work on four levels: the Department of Dental Hygiene, the School of Dentistry, the Health Sciences Center, and the University. She is currently serving her second three-year term as one of two elected representatives from the School of Dentistry on the WVU Faculty Senate. She will be serving as Chair of the WVU Faculty Senate Teaching Assessment Committee for the 2019-2020 academic year. In addition to teaching, Ashlee serves as a Faculty Mentor to students as they complete their 2-year research study. She resides in Fairmont, WV with her fiance, Greg and their 4yr old son, Carson.
